One of UCSJ’s core foci is the continued emphasis on professional and educational development of robust professional knowledge and on-site research done by practitioners and reserachers in close collaboration.

Among the university’s priorities are flexible education formats such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and blended formats providing students the opportunity to tailor their individual educational paths relative to their needs and desires.

Through work and research related to flexible formats we have identified a clear need for face-to-face meetings and for participants to have sense of virtual activities as locally rooted in such formats. Study Labs holds the promise to fulfil these needs. How they have been realized in different countries and for different purposes is therefore extremely interesting. UCSJ’s contribution to this project will be multifaceted:

  • Desk research on existing literature and reports on Study Labs and similar courses.

  • Empirical research on the Study Labs involved in the project.

  • The identification of differences and similarities in approach, design and implementation of Study Labs with the clear intent to provide design recommendations for the establishment of future Study Labs and improvement of existing ones.

  • Delivery of the final report on the project.
